Honestly, the people they were swindling from what they said we’re using their money for horrible illegal things so they were defunding them for a bit. I liked the undercover work and the jobs they would pull to get their money. You are supposed to hate her but she is all that’s wrong with 1878 and topped with a cherry. I mean all the statues of confederate losers should be removed and ladies like that one who funded them being put up should’ve been stopped. Oh goodness the lady they have to work for is a piece of entitled traa- work.
They have to pretend to be married and only have one bed. She has to team up with a handsome rich guy. (Aug.Raven is a strong character that is forced into helping to obtain a copy of the Declaration of the Independence. Fans will be sad to see the end of this outstanding series. The heat between Raven and Braxton is palpable and the twisty mystery keeps the pages flying. As ever, Jenkins makes no bones about the difficulties facing Black Americans during the Reconstruction, but neither does she overemphasize hardship and trauma, keeping the spotlight firmly on Black love, joy, and triumph. Meanwhile, in an equally swoonworthy subplot, Raven’s mother and Braxton’s father, former lovers themselves, rekindle their old romance. Though both start out harshly judgmental of their preconceived notions of the other, their fake marriage and efforts to crack the case soon lead to deep conversations, mutual understanding, and passion. These strangers must go undercover as husband-and-wife domestic servants to a former Confederate soldier suspected of the theft. The Pinkerton Detective Agency recruits New Orleans scammer Raven Moreau and Boston businessman Braxton Steele to aide in its latest investigation, threatening false imprisonment if the unlikely duo fails to comply.
